Postmates is an American meal and goods delivery company. It was founded in 2011 by Bastian Lehmann, Sean Plaice, and Sam Street. The company’s idea was curated when the owner wished they could have a hotdog sitting right where they were. Thus, they designed an app that would enable them to receive food sitting at home.

According to the CEO of Postmates, Bastian Lehmann, “Once upon a time, everything we do today sounded like science fiction.” And now Postmates offers its services in approximately 3000 U.S. cities.

Postmates essentially relies on mobile phone services. Their global inventories system enables them to match inventories with customer demand. Previously, when there were barely any food delivery services available, Postmates become one of the companies that transformed the food delivery market. With Postmates, local merchants acted as warehouses to deliver food. Currently, Postmates has 500,000 fleet members, 600,000 merchants, and up to 80% of households across the U.S.

How Do Good People at Postmates Work?

Companies like Amazon built warehouses to supply wholesale goods to their customers. However, Postmates treats the whole city like warehouses. Each local merchant gets a third party distributor of sorts. Thus, buying is selling becomes even more convenient, and the merchant often reaches a broader audience.

Postmates aims to provide a technological solution for on-demand delivery. They do this by essentially using smart Urban logistics, which connects local couriers to nearly any retailer in your city. Therefore, empowering towns and businesses to grow their market reach and reach for technologically advances solutions.

The Impact of COVID-19

With the COVID-19 pandemic, all online delivery companies have seen an influx of customers. This includes Postmates, which also means adherence to COVID-19 policies to keep employees and customers safe.

According to the safety provisions taken at Postmates, first and foremost, the company introduced Non-contact deliveries. This entails that there would be minimal to no contact between the driver and the customer. The driver will leave your package at your door and ring your bell.

Moreover, Postmates has reduced delivery fees to make on-demand delivery accessible to all customers – especially throughout peak rush hours during these trying times. The company is doing everything to ensure a partnership with local health officials to follow through with all safety guidelines.
