UberEats is an online food ordering and delivery service launched by Uber in 2014 which allows customers to browse and order from local participating restaurants using its app or website. UberEats currently provides online food ordering and food delivery service for around 130,000 restaurants in over 25 countries around the world. UberEats controls 29 percent of the global food delivery market.
Grubhub
Grubhub is an online food ordering and delivery platform that connects diners with local restaurants. Grubhub merged with Seamless food delivery in 2013 and more than 60% of their orders are placed through mobile devices. Eat24, AllMenus, and MenuPages are some of the other brands under the Grubhub portfolio. In February 2020, the company announced the launch of its new Grubhub+ monthly subscription program, which offers free, unlimited food delivery from partner restaurants for monthly fee
Just Eat
Founded in Denmark in 2001, this company acts as an intermediary between independent takeaway food outlets and customers. Their platform allows customers to search for local takeaways and pay online whilst they choose delivery options. They have also acquired SkiptheDishes. They also charge a fee in the UK for restaurants to join.
Deliveroo
Deliveroo is an online food delivery company founded by William Shu in 2013 in London, England. It operates in over two hundred locations across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The company makes revenue by charging restaurants a commission fee, as well as by charging customers a per-order fee. Deliveroo’s Editions kitchens is their new offering.. These delivery-only kitchens, sometimes known as ghost restaurants, allow restaurants to access customers in locations without needing premises, thereby reducing set-up costs compared to a full-service restaurant.
Doordash
DoorDash is a technology company that uses logistics services to offer food delivery from restaurants on-demand. By early 2019, DoorDash had become the largest third-party food delivery provider in the US, as measured by consumer spending. Doordash held its initial public offering on December 9, 2020. Doordash opened its first ghost kitchen in 2019.
